MJC Quarantines Shippers From Hawthorne

Effective immediately, Maryland Jockey Club will not accept any horses shipping in from Hawthorne Racecourse or Chicago due to an unknown outbreak that has the Hawthorne entire stable area under quarantine.

According to an article by the Daily Racing Form, samples were sent to a lab Monday morning, but the results may not be available until Wednesday.

A major concern is that the animals could have contracted equine herpesvirus, a highly transmissible disease with potentially serious consequences for infected individuals.
